It is one of the world's largest blocks of protected areas and designated as part of the Canadian Rocky Mountains World Heritage Site by UNESCO.
Located in the Boreal Forest zone Kinney Lake is surrounded by Spruce-Subalpine Fir, Sub Boreal Spruce and interior Cedar Hemlock.

Wildlife: Whitetail Deer, Elk, Black Bear. At higher elevations, Grizzly bears, Mountain Goat and Mountain Sheep enjoy the 217,000, hectares of almost undisturbed wilderness. Aquatic vegetation communities make important contributions to organic matter and energy capture for food chains within lakes in the Mount Robson Park.
